Teide - still active volcano!

1909 Eruption: The most recent eruption occurred on November 18, 1909, at the Chinyero volcano, located on the northwest rift zone of Tenerife. This event lasted ten days and, fortunately, resulted in no fatalities, although it did cause significant local disruption.

Recent Activity

While Mount Teide is currently dormant, it remains an active volcano. In January 2025, increased seismic activity was detected, characterized by elevated carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide emissions. Despite these signs of unrest, no significant ground deformation was observed, and experts have not indicated an imminent eruption.

The indigenous Guanches revered Mount Teide as a sacred mountain, and it continues to hold cultural and spiritual importance in the Canary Islands. Accessing Teide National Park

From Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the park is approximately an hour's drive via the TF-21 or TF-24 roads. Public buses (TITSA) also operate routes to the park:

Activities and Excursions

Hiking: The park boasts numerous trails suitable for various fitness levels. The ascent to Mount Teide's summit is particularly popular.
